The VAS 522 001 Pressure-Loss Tester is used to verify the seal of individual cylinders of spark-ignition and
diesel engines. Testing cylinders for pressure loss is a supplementary procedure to running a cylinder compression
test. If a cylinder’s compression pressure has been found to be conspicuously low, the exact location
of the leak can be identified by means of pressure-loss testing, which is done by connecting the Pressure-
Loss Tester to the workshop’s compressed air supply.

The VAS 522 001 is the best solution, because …

…… it enables fast, precise troubleshooting without much effort: Only a few parts (spark plug, glow plug
or injector) need to be removed to use the testing device. With the device’s included top dead center
gauge, you can easily locate the cylinder’s top dead center. The high-precision manometer indicates
the drop in pressure in the cylinder as a percentage, as well as the range of acceptable pressure drop
(i.e. to 23%).

…… it allows to easily locate the leak causing the pressure loss by simply by listening for the sound of air
escaping through the leak (e.g. in the inlet or outlet valves, pistons or piston rings) or by looking for air
bubbles appearing in the cooling system’s expansion tank.

…… thanks to the modular design principle, it helps keep the workshop’s capital expenditure low: The testing
device is namely employed by means of adapters already supplied to service dealers with the V.A.G 1763
Compression Tester Kit. For these adapters to be employed with the Pressure Loss Tester, only their nonreturn
valve needs to be removed.

…… it is a complete package: Included with the testing device is the VAS 522 001/1 Top Dead Center Gauge
and the VAS 522 001/2 Connector for employing the adapters included with the V.A.G 1763 Compression
Tester.
